How to Choose a Student Trumpet
The most common type of trumpet for students is the Bb trumpet, such as the RS Berkeley Student Bb Trumpet. This is the type of trumpet heard in concert bands, jazz ensembles, and rock bands. When selecting a trumpet for your student, there are three factors to consider:
Size of bore: The bore is the opening for air to travel through the instrument. A medium size (.460) is considered to be an excellent choice for a student due to the tendency to produce a fuller sound, while not requiring significant effort from the lungs. We recommend the Bach TR300H Student Trumpet.
Ease: Keys that move with smoothly and quickly and a design that is easy to clean.
Mouthpiece: The standard for a student is the C-cup mouthpiece.
Overall, the trumpet is a wonderful first instrument as it is easier to physically play because it does not require sophisticated manual dexterity and an eager student can progress quite rapidly.
“If you wish in this world to advance your merits you're bound to enhance; You must stir it and stump it, and blow your own trumpet, Or, trust me, you haven't a chance.”
